Smoothing Low Poly & Optimizing Vertices in Blender

Do you have low poly model but would like a smoother look in your game? I use this method when I have low poly models with sharp edges that I want to appear more rounded.

  • Open & Select your model in Blender (a tree on the, to the right in the image, has a 30k vert count)
  • Add a Subdivision Surface Modifier with default settings (middle tree appears smoother but has an increased vert count of 100k)
  • Add a Decimate Modifier and set the Ratio to .2 resulting in a smooth tree with around 20k vert count
